Gateway to the Delta: aerials beside the bay
L’Ampolla sits where the rocky Baix Ebre coast gives way to the beaches and rice fields of the Delta. The village looks out over the bay and a good share of its homes stand a few metres from the water. That has direct consequences for any aerial: sea air corrodes exposed materials, the wind punishes masts and damp gets into connectors that are not properly sealed.
The faults we attend most in L’Ampolla are:
- Channels breaking up on windy days, from aerials or dishes that have shifted.
- Signal fading away gradually as connectors and cable corrode.
- A frozen picture from amplifiers with no filter against 5G transmissions in the 700 MHz band.
- Sockets that work in one room and not in another, because splitters are chained together.
For a terrestrial installation that lasts here we use outdoor-grade materials, protect every connector and set the amplification with a field meter. There is more detail under TV aerials and satellite dishes.
Satellite dishes for European residents
A good number of the people who live or spend their summers in L’Ampolla come from elsewhere in Europe, and a dish is as ordinary a sight here as a TV aerial. We fit and aim satellite dishes towards Astra 19.2° E, which carries many channels from Germany, France and the United Kingdom, and towards Hispasat 30° W for Spanish and Portuguese content.
Three pieces of advice we give often:
- Dish size matters. Some channels arrive at a lower level in this area and a dish that is too small can break up in rain.
- The mounting matters more. A good dish badly anchored will lose its aim in the first storm.
- One installation beats two. If you want terrestrial and satellite in several rooms, a multiswitch carries both signals over the same cabling.
Flats, entry systems and wifi
In the blocks of flats in the village and along the beach, many associations have old door entry systems and communal aerials nobody has looked at in years. We replace entrance panels and handsets with 2-wire or IP video entry, and bring the aerial head-end up to date with a 5G filter.
In homes let out by the season, wifi is another source of complaints. If the router does not reach the terrace or the bedrooms, we fit wired access points or a mesh system; we explain it under wifi solutions.
A check before the season
Many homes in L’Ampolla spend the winter shut and are opened at Easter or in summer. That is exactly when the surprises turn up: the television will not tune, the dish cannot find the satellite, the amplifier will not switch on. Given the way our Terres de l’Ebre visits are scheduled, the sensible thing is to get ahead of it.
A check beforehand covers the state of the mast and its fixings, measuring both terrestrial and satellite signal, inspecting connectors and exposed cable, and confirming every point is receiving enough level. If anything needs changing, we quote for it free of charge and leave it ready before you arrive. If you own several flats, we can look at them all on the same visit.
When we come to L’Ampolla
L’Ampolla lies south of Salou, in Terres de l’Ebre, and it is not somewhere we can reach at a moment’s notice. We work to scheduled visits: you tell us the problem, send us photos, we suggest a date and arrive with the materials planned. We make each trip count by also covering L’Ametlla de Mar and Deltebre.
During the visit we measure the signal, explain the cause and give you a free quote. If you approve it, we carry out the repair and check every point before we leave.
