Aerials in the medieval town
Montblanc still has much of its medieval walled circuit, and that shapes any work on its roofs. Inside the walls there are old buildings, streets where a long ladder will not fit and roofs that will not always take a conventional mast. What takes an hour somewhere else here means thinking first about where to anchor and how to bring the cable down.
The commonest faults in the historic centre are:
- Aged aerials that have gone decades without inspection and have drifted off aim.
- Improvised shared installations, with a cable passing from one house to the next along the facade.
- Amplifiers with no 5G filter, which since the 700 MHz band was reorganised can be overloaded by mobile transmissions.
- Damp in connectors and junction boxes, typical of cold inland winters.
What we usually propose is putting the installation in order: a well-sited aerial, an amplifier or programmable central unit with a filter, tap-offs and new cable on a discreet route. All of it with outdoor-grade TV aerials and satellite dishes.
Lilla, Prenafeta, Rojals and La Guàrdia dels Prats
The municipality takes in several small villages scattered across the Conca, each with its own lie of the land. Rojals and Prenafeta are up in the hills, with houses further apart; Lilla and La Guàrdia dels Prats are small places where nearly every home has its own aerial. In isolated houses and masies the terrestrial signal can struggle to arrive, and the trick lies in where the aerial goes rather than how big it is.
When terrestrial cannot be received at decent quality, satellite television is an alternative. We fit satellite dishes aimed at Hispasat 30° W or Astra 19.2° E depending on the channels you want, on solid mountings chosen for inland winds.
Door entry and access control in the centre
Outside the walls, in the Montblanc that grew from the twentieth century onwards, there are blocks of flats, shops and small businesses. That is where we are asked most often for:
- Renewing door entry systems. Old panels, crackly audio or handsets with no spares. We move them on to 2-wire or IP video entry, which shows who is calling and can divert the call to a phone.
- Access control for entrance halls, car parks, shops or units on the nearby estates: cards, fobs or a keypad, with user management. It is explained under access control.
- Cameras at entrances and in stores, with recording and remote viewing.
Stone houses and wifi
Many homes in Montblanc and its villages have thick stone walls. They are cool in summer, but wifi barely passes through a wall like that, and it is quite usual for the router downstairs to give nothing in the bedrooms. The most dependable answer is to run cable to an access point on each floor; where cabling is impossible, a well-placed mesh system. We cover it under wifi solutions.
If you have a masia or a second home in the municipality that sits shut for weeks, the same network will carry IP cameras you can check from home.
How we organise work in the Conca de Barberà
Montblanc is about three quarters of an hour from Salou by road. To make the journey worth it, we book the visit in advance and group inland call-outs together. Before coming we ask you for a description of the fault and, if possible, photos: that way we arrive with the likely materials and cut the risk of a second trip.
On the visit we measure the signal, explain what is happening and give you a free quote. If you accept, we do the work and finish by checking each point with the field meter. On the same route we look after Valls and Alcover.
