Terrestrial aerials in Les Borges del Camp: village and farmland
Les Borges del Camp has two quite different realities where television is concerned. In the village, around the N-420 as it passes through, reception is generally fine and the faults nearly always come from the installation itself. Out on the farmhouses and scattered homes among the olive and hazelnut groves, distance and the nearby hills make it much harder for the signal to arrive.
So we do not apply the same recipe everywhere. First we measure, then we decide.
Faults we see in the village
- Tired coaxial cable losing signal on its way to the television.
- Splitters and sockets added over the years, dividing the signal more than it can stand.
- Old amplifiers that no longer match the channels after the second digital dividend of 2020.
- 4G and 5G interference causing break-up, which the right filter removes.
What changes on farmhouses and isolated homes
On a property away from the village the challenge is on the roof. We go over the TV aerial from its aim to its fixings. Very often what has gone wrong is that the aerial has been shifted by the wind, or that the mast is too short to clear a tree or a neighbouring building.
When the signal really does arrive weak, we fit a masthead amplifier and set it with a field meter. Putting an amplifier in without measuring is a common mistake: if there is already enough signal, it overloads the system and you get more break-up, not less.
If even that does not give stable reception, the alternative is a satellite dish. It is also the answer for anyone who wants international channels.
Mestral winds and masts that give way
The mestral blows hard across the Camp de Tarragona and punishes anything that is not properly secured. In Les Borges we find bent masts, aerials turned out of true and guy wires hanging loose. When we repair, we leave the whole assembly firm: new clamps, a bracket suited to the height of the mast, and cable clipped properly so it cannot beat against the wall.
If your aerial has gone a long time without being looked at, a precautionary check saves you losing the television at the worst possible moment.
Internet and wifi on rural properties
On many smallholdings the connection comes in at a single point and never reaches the far end of the house, the store or the working area. With wifi solutions we extend the network: mesh systems indoors, outdoor access points and wireless links between separate buildings. If you want to keep an eye on the land while you are away, that same network carries CCTV you can check from your phone.
Several televisions in one house
Another regular question in the village: the set in the dining room is fine and the one in the kitchen or the bedroom is not. It is almost never the television’s fault. There is usually one splitter too many, a spur made with thin cable, or a badly crimped connector hidden behind a cupboard. We trace the whole run from the aerial to each socket and leave the signal even at all of them.
The way we work
You ring or message us and describe the symptom. We come to the house, get up on the roof and measure the signal. We explain what we have found and give you a free quote. Only once you approve it do we carry out the repair, and when we finish we check set by set that every channel comes through.
Coming out to Les Borges del Camp
From Salou we head towards Reus and pick up the N-420 towards Falset; in twenty-five or thirty minutes we are in the village. We reach the farmhouses too, as long as the van can get to them. On the same road we look after Duesaigües, and very close by we work in Riudecanyes and Castellvell del Camp.
