Duesaigües: hills, wind and houses coming back to life
Duesaigües is a small village inland in the Baix Camp, at the foot of the ranges that separate the Camp from the Priorat. Its setting is lovely, but it complicates two things for television: the terrain, which can make it hard for the terrestrial signal to reach certain houses, and the wind, which on the climb towards the Coll de la Teixeta blows with real force.
On top of that, recent years have seen houses in the village and farmhouses beyond it refurbished after long spells standing empty. Many have no aerial at all, or keep an installation that is no longer fit for anything. It is one of the jobs we do most here.
Installing a terrestrial aerial from scratch
When the house has nothing, we treat it as a small job done properly. Our TV aerial service includes:
- Measuring on the roof first, to choose the best position and the aim.
- A mast and bracket suited to the height and the exposure to wind, firmly anchored.
- A UHF aerial appropriate to the current channels, after the second digital dividend of 2020.
- Good coaxial cable and sockets in whichever rooms you tell us.
- An amplifier only where it is needed, set with a meter and never by eye.
If the house is being worked on, the ideal is to call us before the walls close up. That way we run the cable through conduit and avoid surface trunking.
When the aerial is already there but fails
In occupied houses the symptoms repeat themselves: the picture breaks up now and then, some channels disappear, or the television loses its signal when the wind gets up. In most cases we find one or more of these causes:
- A loose or bent mast.
- An aerial knocked off aim by a storm.
- Connectors holding damp, or cable dried out by the sun.
- An old amplifier that no longer matches the current frequencies.
We repair what needs repairing and explain what we have changed.
Terrestrial, satellite or internet: how to choose
In a hill village there is no single answer. In short:
- Terrestrial: the natural choice if the measurement at your roof is good. No subscription.
- Satellite: the alternative when the terrestrial signal is not stable, or if you want international channels. We fit dishes aimed at Hispasat or Astra.
- Internet: the platforms work well if your connection is good. If the trouble is that the wifi will not reach the television, we sort that with wifi solutions.
For houses with a street door and a courtyard, we also fit straightforward door entry systems.
Farmhouses and homes beyond the village
The farmhouses across the municipality bring their own difficulties. Many sit halfway up a slope or at the bottom of a gully, where one nearby hill is enough to block the signal. In those cases we try several points on the roof, and even a free-standing mast on the ground if the roof offers no clear view. If none of that works, we do not keep pushing terrestrial: we propose satellite and explain which channels you would get.
We also check the cable run, which in large old houses tends to be long. Good coaxial cable and connectors sealed against damp save years of faults.
Our process
We listen, by phone or message. We visit the house and measure the real signal. We give you a free quote, with the option we recommend and the reason for it. We install and, before leaving, go through channel by channel on every television.
Getting to Duesaigües from Salou
We go as far as Reus and carry on along the N-420 towards Falset. In about thirty minutes we are in the village. We cover the village itself, the area around the station and the farmhouses that can be reached by road. On the same route we work in Les Borges del Camp and Riudecanyes.
