The satellite dish as the answer in Riudecanyes
Riudecanyes is a small municipality with a great deal of ground outside the village: houses beside the reservoir, farmhouses on the slopes and homes out towards Escornalbou. At those points the hills can block the terrestrial signal, and there are residents who have spent years with a television that freezes or loses half its channels.
When terrestrial has nothing more to give, a satellite dish is the most dependable way out. The signal comes from orbit, so it does not depend on what stands between your house and a transmitter, only on having clear sky to the south.
What a satellite installation involves for us:
- Finding the spot with a clean view of the satellite, away from trees and ridgelines that might grow or get in the way.
- Anchoring the dish firmly, with the gusts of wind here in mind.
- Aiming by measurement at Hispasat 30° W or Astra 19.2° E, depending on the channels you want.
- Running the cable to each television and leaving the receiver set up.
If there are several televisions in the house, we plan the distribution with a multi-output LNB or a multiswitch so each one can tune independently.
And if I would rather stay with terrestrial?
Satellite is not always necessary. In the village and at many houses the terrestrial signal arrives perfectly well and the problem lies in the installation. Before we suggest a dish we measure the aerial and rule out the simple things:
- An aerial turned out of true, or a loose mast.
- Cracked coaxial cable or connectors holding damp.
- An amplifier that has failed or been out of adjustment since the 2020 frequency change.
- A missing 5G filter where there is interference.
Sometimes moving the aerial a few metres on the same roof improves reception a great deal. We will tell you honestly which option is better for your house. If terrestrial can be recovered with an adjustment, there is no sense in putting up a dish; and if it cannot, we will not have you spending money on amplifiers that will not solve anything.
Isolated houses: cameras and connection
People living away from the village, or using the house only at weekends, tend to ask us for two more things. The first is security cameras they can check from a phone. The second is wifi that covers the whole house and the outside as well, which those cameras need in order to work at all.
Second homes by the reservoir
Some houses around the reservoir stand shut for weeks. On coming back, it is common for the dish or the aerial to give no picture. The causes are usually simple: damp in an outdoor connector, an LNB that has stopped working, a cable gnawed by an animal, or a receiver that lost its settings in a power cut. We go through all of it on the same visit.
To avoid surprises, it pays to have the installation well protected from the outset: sealed connectors, cable in conduit on exposed runs and the receiver plugged into a protected extension lead. Small details, but they make the difference in a house that is not lived in daily.
How we work
A call or a message so we understand the problem. A visit with signal measurement at the property. A free quote, with the alternatives explained if there is more than one. Installation, and a final check with a field meter at every socket.
Coming out to Riudecanyes
From Salou we head inland across the Baix Camp on country roads and are in Riudecanyes in around half an hour. We reach the village, the reservoir area, the Escornalbou side and the houses along the rural tracks. We combine routes with Les Borges del Camp, Duesaigües and Montbrió del Camp.
