A young municipality with old village houses
La Canonja has been a municipality in its own right since 2010, when it separated from Tarragona, but the village itself is far older. You see it in the streets: the old centre is full of village houses of several storeys, each with its own roof terrace and its own aerial, while the newer areas bring blocks of flats and more recent townhouses. And off to one side sits Masricart, part of the same municipality with a character of its own.
For us that is three scenarios with three different sets of problems, and they are worth taking separately.
Houses in the old centre: individual aerials
On a village house in La Canonja the aerial is yours alone, and so are its faults. What we find most:
- Masts strapped to chimneys or to low walls that have weakened over the years.
- Cable running down the facade with dried-out sections, home-made joints and badly finished connectors.
- Old amplifiers that no longer suit digital television after the channel reshuffle that released the 700 MHz band.
- Sockets added with no plan during refurbishments, leaving every television short of signal.
The answer is not always a new aerial. Very often it is enough to strengthen the bracket, redo the cable and set the amplification correctly. We measure before and after so you can see the difference. The full service is under TV aerials and satellite dishes.
Flats and townhouses: entry systems and shared signal
In the blocks of flats the aerial is communal and the door entry system is usually the one fitted when the building went up. If it sounds poor, will not release the lock or the entrance panel has weathered badly, we work with door entry systems: repair, a new panel, or a move to a 2-wire video system that reuses the cabling.
In rows of townhouses each home tends to have its own entry system and its own aerial, but they were all installed at the same time and have worn at the same rate. If several neighbours have the same complaint, we can look at the houses on a single visit.
Wifi in the newer homes
Recent homes in La Canonja are well cabled for telecoms, but that does not guarantee decent wifi. The router usually ends up in the hallway next to where the fibre comes in, and the signal weakens as it crosses partition walls and floor slabs. In a two-storey house it is more obvious still.
We put forward wifi solutions to suit the case: a wired access point upstairs, a mesh system or, in older houses with no ducting, powerline adapters as an alternative.
Three quick checks before you call us
Some aerial faults in La Canonja are sorted without a visit at all. Before asking for a quote, try this:
- Retune the television. After any channel change, a set that has not been retuned loses broadcasts even though the aerial is fine.
- See whether it fails on every television in the house or only one. If it is only one, the problem is usually that socket, its cable, or the set itself.
- Ask a neighbour in the same building. If it fails for them too, the fault belongs to the communal installation and the association should be told.
If it still will not come through after that, then yes: it is time to measure the signal with proper equipment.
How we work
- We listen, and ask for a detail or a photo.
- We visit and measure: aerial signal, the state of the entry system, or wifi coverage.
- A free quote, no obligation, always before anything starts.
- We do the work with suitable materials and check the result with you there.
Distance from Salou
La Canonja sits between Salou and Tarragona, very close to our base: a quarter of an hour is normal, depending on traffic. We cover the old centre, the newer areas and Masricart, and we also work in neighbouring Bonavista and Vila-seca.
