One city, several kinds of signal problem
Tarragona is not one place as far as an aerial is concerned. In the Part Alta the roofs are old, the streets are narrow, and any mast has to sit alongside stone walls and buildings of real heritage value. Around the Eixample and the Rambla you find blocks from the 1960s and 1970s whose communal systems have survived two changes of digital television frequencies without a proper inspection. And in estates such as Campclar, Torreforta and Bonavista we meet large residents’ associations with dozens of sockets hanging off a single amplifier.
These are the symptoms we hear most often from the city:
- Channels that pixelate or disappear since the second digital dividend in 2020, when the 700 MHz band was handed over. Plenty of installations still run filters and head-end units set for frequencies nobody uses now.
- 5G and LTE interference, common where operators have masts on nearby rooftops. A properly placed LTE/5G filter at the head-end sorts it.
- Signal loss on the top floors or at the last sockets, the classic sign of tired tap-offs and ageing coaxial.
- Corrosion in El Serrallo and around Llevant, where the sea air eats connectors, brackets and clamps.
Before we suggest anything, we measure with a field meter at the head-end and at your own socket. That tells us whether the fault sits in the aerial, the amplification or the distribution, so we are not swapping parts blind. The full picture is on our TV aerials and satellite dishes page.
Residents’ associations: entry systems, access and cameras
A good share of our work in Tarragona is communal. In the centre and in Sant Pere i Sant Pau there are many buildings with analogue door entry systems that have started to fail: panels that will not ring through, noisy audio, electric locks that refuse to release. You normally have three options:
- Repair the entrance panel or the power supply, if spares still exist.
- Upgrade to a 2-wire video entry system, reusing the existing cable and avoiding work in the stairwell.
- Move to IP, which lets you answer the door from your phone. Useful when the building also has offices or business units.
With door entry systems the question of access control usually follows: key fobs for the garage, readers at the main door, or opening from a phone. That is standard in the newer buildings in La Floresta and Parc Francolí, and increasingly common in refurbished Eixample blocks.
We also fit CCTV in entrance halls, communal garages and shops, working with an NVR or DVR recorder and IP cameras, and leaving the system reachable from your phone. We talk you through the video surveillance sign and GDPR so the association has no trouble later.
Flats, business premises and holiday lets
Communal work is not all we do. In private flats we deal with:
- New aerial points in a bedroom or the living room after a refurbishment.
- Satellite dishes for international channels, asked for often by residents from other countries in Sant Salvador, El Miracle and near the beach. We point at Astra 19.2° E, Hispasat 30° W or whichever satellite carries the channels you want.
- Wifi that will not reach every room. In flats with thick walls, normal in the Part Alta, a mesh system or a wired access point beats a cheap repeater every time. We explain it under wifi solutions.
In shops and offices in the centre we combine cameras, wifi and access control so everything runs from the same phone.
New builds and refurbishments: the ICT
In recent developments and full refurbishments, the telecoms installation follows the ICT communal installation rules set out in RD 346/2011. Here the aerial is rarely the problem; what sits behind it is. Secondary cabinets with no labelling, a PAU left unconnected in some flats, or a multiswitch that does not share the satellite signal properly across the building.
If you live in a new block in the city and one socket gives nothing, we trace the route from the telecoms room to your flat. And if the association wants to add satellite, fibre or cameras to an existing ICT, we plan the extension around the ducting already in place, without opening walls for the sake of it.
How we work in Tarragona
The method is the same in every district:
- You tell us the problem by message, with a photo if you can.
- We visit and diagnose: signal readings, head-end inspection, cabling or entrance panel.
- A free quote before anything starts. You decide.
- We repair or install with materials suited to the installation.
- We check at the end, measuring the sockets with the meter and explaining what we did.
For residents’ associations we can set the quote out in writing so the property manager can take it to a meeting.
The parts of Tarragona we cover
We come from Salou and move across the whole city: Part Alta, Eixample, El Serrallo, Sant Pere i Sant Pau, Sant Salvador, El Miracle, Llevant, La Floresta, Parc Francolí, Torreforta, Campclar and Bonavista. Eastwards we reach the coastal villages of La Mora and Tamarit; westwards we also work in La Canonja and Vila-seca.
If your district is not on the list, ask anyway. In Tarragona and around it we get to almost any address.
